Well not really... This blue heron is not showing off, he has just landed and hadn't folded his big wings yet. I'm sorry to say this is the last of the series from Huntington Beach State Park. I had a great time.

Sine Wave

click to see the photo in Flickr

It was about dusk on a beautiful football Saturday. My camera was set up for the motion blur shots of the game. My buddy pointed out a flight of Canadian geese over the treetops. I took a shot, but forgot I had the motion blur settings. When I realized my mistake, I figured I had another file for the bit bucket. When I got back home I noticed the sine wave made by wings of the geese. Even digital photography can be like a box of chocolates.

Sometimes an image is not composition or exposure settings or some artsy juxtaposition. Sometimes it is just the subject. Bridges

A couple times a week, I drive around at lunch looking for interesting photos. I’ve driven across this bridge near Reidville numerous times when I considered taking the bridge and its predecessor. Piney Woods

click to see the photo in Flickr

Here is another attempt using the vertical motion blur. This was taken in a stand of spindly pine trees. Coppery pine straw covers the ground and an opening in the woods about 30 yards away shows the light green of muscadine leaves. There is still room for improvement, but the result is getting better (IMHO).

Ben’s Creek

click to see the photo in Flickr

A few weekends ago, Greenville hosted Artisphere, an outdoor arts festival. I saw a photographer with an interesting collection of what I think was a motion blur. Instead of the usual horizontal pan of people or things in motion, the pan was verticle and the subject was most often trees. You could do anything that is linear: tall grass, wicker, vines hair, etc. Here the result from my first effort. I think it has some potential. This was taken overlooking Ben's Creek near Reidville.
